St. Martin's Day men are traditionally associated with St. Martin because they dress up as the saint and go from house to house on the evening of November 11th, which is St. Martin's Day. This tradition is especially popular in Germany and other European countries. The men often carry lanterns and sing songs in exchange for treats, similar to the custom of trick-or-treating on Halloween. St. Martin's Day men are a way of commemorating the charitable acts of St. Martin, who is known for his kindness and generosity towards the poor. **
